Kitchen Redo begins...

So I decided that I want my kitchen to be shades of beige, brown and dark brown. I have been wanting to paint it FOREVER and I finally decided to tackle the island first. I figured it would be do-able in one day and I could get the ball rolling. I am always frustrated by the lack of design ideas for boring 90's houses with these terrible oak cabinets, and plain white walls. Most of the typical suburban houses these days lack any interest or architecture and I intend to start chipping away at all of the projects I have in mind to give my house some interest. So lets begin with the kitchen.

I painted it yellow after a disastrous burgundy color that closed in the walls and looked way too dark. The golden oak MUST GO. I think I have about 100 of these cabinets here and there in my house.
First up..the island..
I cleaned and sanded them well and because I had no place to spread out all the doors and not enough patience to take everything off...I left them on. Furthermore I did the unthinkable...I DID NOT prime! Yes that's right..no primer. I used Liquid Sandpaper and it worked just fine. The paint was Bear Premium from Home Depot. Oh and I bought a very pricey paint brush. The tools you use make a huge difference.

I still need to get hardware for my cabinets, I was thinking of oil rubbed bronze knobs and pulls like this:

I am also debating if the paint looks too plain and I might need to get some bronze glaze to antique the edges a bit. I do feel victorious that I got this far! Next up is the other cabinets which will be antique white, and the walls will be a mocha color.
